Salinas Mayor's Press Conference
March 5, 2010

Salinas Mayor Dennis Donohue will be holding his regular press conference on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. on the front steps by the marquee Salinas High School, 726 South Main Street.

Following his press update, Mayor Donohue will be joined by Assistant Principal John Macias and Mary Margaret Garcia, Fundraising Chair, who will share their theatre group’s plans to participate in the Fringe Festival in Scotland.


The Salinas Police Department Targets Impaired Drivers with Checkpoint

The Salinas Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Drivers License checkpoint on Thursday, March 4, 2010 in the evening hours The checkpoint will be conducted at an undisclosed location within the city limits. In an effort to reduce the number of persons killed and injured in alcohol involved crashes, DUI checkpoints are conducted to identify offenders and get them off the street, as well as educate the public on the dangers of impaired driving.


Grand Opening of Jet West
A New Salinas Airport Business from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March, 5, 2010

Jet West has made a significant investment in the Salinas Airport turning an older airport building into a “state of the art” corporate aircraft facility. Jet West, formerly located in Reno Nevada, will provide full aviation services including aircraft fueling and aircraft charter.

Dennis Donahue, Salinas Mayor stated, “Jet West is a welcome addition to our airport and our City, we look forward to a long term mutually beneficial relationship.”

Public Input Regarding Budget Balancing Plan

Upon adoption of the Budget Balancing Plan on July 21, 2009, the City Council requested that the public be provided with additional opportunities to review and comment on the Plan. The City Council Finance Committee discussed the best options for receiving public comment and determined that utilizing the Commissions as a vehicle to hold a public meeting would be best. The logic behind this decision took into account that past budget meetings in the community have not resulted in a good turn-out. It is expected that the commission option will attract residents who are interested in budget cuts associated with a particular commission, department or service.
