The City Clerk's Office is the record and archive keeper of the City's legislative actions, which includes indexing and retrieving documents, ensuring transparency, and is responsible for the recordation and codification of the Salinas City Code. The Office of the City Clerk is also responsible for filing lobbying campaign reports and statements of economic interest filings in accordance with the Political Reform Act, Brown Act and AB 1234 Local Ethics training filings. The Office of the Clerk oversees Commission/Board/Committee vacancies, appointments, ceremonial function, serves as the election official for local municipal elections, responds to records research requests, serves as liaison for public inquiries and provides support to the City Council and the Measure V Oversight Committee.
A general municipal election will be held in the City of Salinas on Tuesday, the 8th day of November 2016 for the following officers:
- Mayor, elected City-wide, for a full, two-year term
- City Councilmember, District 1, for a full, four- year term
- City Councilmember, District 4, for a full, four-year term
- City Councilmember, District 6, for a full, four-year term
In keeping with the no-safe seat provision of City Charter Section 6.1, the office of City Councilmember for District 2, District 3, and/or District 5 would be filled for a two-year term in the event the incumbent were to file as a candidate for the Office of Mayor.
The polls will be open between the hours of 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.
The Nomination filing period opens on July 18, 2016. The regular nomination filing period closes at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 12, 2016. If the incumbent Councilmember does not file during the regular filing period, the filing period for other candidates for that office will be extended to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. Nomination filing forms must be obtained from the Salinas City Clerk’s Office, 200 Lincoln Avenue, Salinas, CA 93901, (831)758-7381. Candidates are encouraged to schedule an appointment with the City Clerk's Office for issuance and filing of nomination forms. Priority will be given to candidates with appointments
