Salinas Public Library
Cesear Chavez Library
The library is located at 615 Williams Road in
the East area of Salinas. It features collections
of books, DVDs, and CDs in both English and Spanish, as well as computers for Internet access. The Chicano Resource Center includes materials on the Chicano and Mexican American experience. The Homework Center is open Monday - Friday from 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m., and Saturdays all day. A bilingual storytime is held every Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
El Gablian Library
This small library is located at 1400 N. Main St. in the North Central area of Salinas. It has been renovated to make use of the limited space,and includes books, DVDs, CDs, and Internet access for both children and adults. Storytime is held every Thursday at 4:00 p.m. There is a lovely Literacy Garden and Walk of Virtues by the City Youth Commission.
John Steinbeck Library
The library is located at 350 Lincoln Avenue in South Salinas, and has the largest collection of materials including: the John Steinbeck Collection, yearbooks from Salinas’ high schools, as well as online resources in finance, health, and literature. A Literacy Lab provides tutors, GED, computers and free materials to individuals and families learning to read. The Children’s Room features “Snappy” the tortoise, Storytime every Saturday at 11:00 a.m., and a King Arthur theme a la Steinbeck. The Digital Arts Lab has Apple computers and software to create music, film, photography, and graphic arts. The "U Name It Young Adult Lounge" has Xbox 360, 52” LCD plasma screen, graphic novels, manga, and classics.
