Waste Water Maintenance
The Wastewater Division of the Environmental and Maintenance Services Department is responsible to perform maintenance and repairs to the infrastructure necessary to safely convey industrial, stormwater and sanitary sewer waste. The Division is also responsible for water quality protection activities that include infrastructure maintenance, water quality monitoring, illicit discharge prevention and public education and outreach associated with Salinas’ National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Permit. The Division is also responsible for coordination of the Green Team, an interdepartmental effort toward greater environmental sustainability in municipal activities.
Storm Drain Maintenance
This activity, part of the Clean Water Program, provides for storm drain and open channel maintenance prior to winter rains, removes pollutants from the waste stream prior to runoff to the environment through best management practices (BMP's), and ensures safety from local flooding.
Street Sweeping
Provides cleaning of City streets to maintain a clean environment for residents and to remove debris, trash, and pollutants before they enter the storm drains that lead to local waterways.
Sanitary Sewer Maintenance
Ensures the environment and public health are protected by maintaining the sewer system in a safe, reliable, and sanitary condition.
The Industrial Waste Facility
Provides an economical and environmentally acceptable means of water treatment and disposal of process water from local agricultural industries and others with process water requirements.
