Salinas Vision Zero Action Plan

The roadmap to safer streets in Salinas!
Salinas City Council has approved a resolution adopting the Salinas Vision Zero Action Plan. This Action Plan outlines the initiatives and actions that City departments and partner agencies will take to advance goals of the City’s Vision Zero Policy, reducing severe injury traffic collisions and fatalities on Salinas streets.
What does this mean? Although the City already actively implements safety projects, programs and efforts consistent with Vision Zero Policy, the Vision Zero Action Plan aligns with community feedback staff received from other planning efforts...
Vision Zero Open House

The City of Salinas is hosting an Open House for the community to provide feedback on the Salinas Vision Zero DRAFT Action Plan. The Open House will be held at the West Wing Conference Room at City Hall on July 1st at 6pm.

Help Make Streets Safe-Salinas Vision Zero Needs Your Input

City Staff is requesting your input to help prioritize efforts to improve traffic safety in our community by taking a quick survey using the Salinas Vision Zero Survey tool . Participants taking the survey can place a pin on a map to the location or area of traffic safety concern with an option to provide a brief description of the concern. Participants may submit more than one survey.

Downtown Complete Streets Project at Ciclovia

On Sunday, October 6th the Salinas community came together at Ciclovía to enjoy activities such as running, biking, skating and dancing. With much preparation, 1.6 miles of Alisal Street, from Main Street to Sanborn Street was converted from an arterial street to a large plaza for this 7th year of first Open Streets event in Monterey County. Open Streets events across the country promote healthy living as well as active transportation. Other cities in Monterey County has followed Salinas’ lead and have implemented Open Streets events of their own.

New Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons at School Crossing

Students at Natividad Elementary School on Modoc Street have a new traffic safety device that helps them get across the 4-lanes of Alvin Drive. The new flashing beacons are part of a series of improvements the City is planning on Alvin Drive that support safe routes to school.
The flashing beacons come with the restriping of a new high visibility crosswalk with supporting yield markings set back 50 feet from each direction to the crosswalk. The flashing beacons themselves include two LED rectangular shaped light sources that flash with high frequency when a pedestrian...
